LG has just announced that customers who purchase an LG G3 from select U.S. retailers will receive a free virtual reality headset with their purchase. The headset, which wasannounced last February, is essentially a plastic version of Google Cardboard built specifically for the G3. Though it’s built by LG, the headset utilizes the same VR content library as Cardboard which can be found in the Google Play Store. Just like Cardboard, VR for G3 features a neodymium ring magnet on the side that works with the magnetic gyroscope sensor in the G3 which allows the user to switch applications and scroll through menus without the need for a touchscreen display. There’s also no assembly required, so G3 owners will just need to pop in the phone and start downloading content.

We have no clue when the LG G4 will be leaked, but we can definitely tell you what the mean internet highways tell us about the phone. A new benchmark has been leaked. The protagonist? Of course, the LG G4, a phone that is expected to be among the best in 2015.

The benchmark comes from GFXBench and depicts a device with a 5.5-inch 2560x1440p display, a 1.8 GHz six-core Snapdragon 808 processor, an Adreno 418 GPU, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and a couple cameras set at 15/7 MP.

Opinion: I suppose the weirdest part here is that LG is opting for a Snapdragon 808 processor instead of an 810. Why would this be? It’s true that the 808 will be less power hungry, but it will also be less powerful. It’s weird to make a decision like this for a phone that is meant to be a high-end handset. Do remember these are still just rumors, though.

Xiaomi has been busy for quite a while as they have a few products in its portfolio, which are to be realised soon. In addition to the Xiaomi TV, two new smartphones were spotted on the Chinese Quality Certification Center.

The latter smartphones carry the codename model names, which are  2,014,617 and 2,015,021 (which are most likely certification numbers). The certification issuing date seems to be March 27th. Both of the devices are said to be equipped with a smart charger, which is compatible with 5V / 2A, 9V / 1.2A and 12V / 1A and comes in three sizes. These accessories may confirm that they are designed for the flagship devices like the Xiaomi Mi Note.

What is more, this certification shows that one of the products may be the new top of the line Xiaomi Mi Note model with a Snapdragon 810 chip inside. This is the most likely scenario as it is not expected that Xiaomi releases a completely new flagship device.

LeTV could launch phones with USB C

Nokia set the pace by including a USB-C port on their N1 tablet. That was backin November.

Here we are in March, four months later, and Apple and Google have adopted USB-C. (Unlike Nokia, they’ll offer full USB 3.1, not the USB 2.x of the N1 tablet.)

And now LeTV’s new phone will have a USB-C port.

This is a bit embarrassing for many companies, among them Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, HTC, Lenovo/Motorola, and Dell. Just to name a few.

I know that it takes time to develop a device. But the speed at which LeTV will be incorporating it into their new phone is surprising — and it really is embarrassing for those other companies to be trumped by an absolute newcomer in devices.

And all those new Core-M tablets announced and released by Teclast, CUBE, Ramos, and others — not one of them contain a USB-C port!

It’s going to be interesting to see what USB-C — at real USB 3.1 speeds — means for tablets. Is battery drain an issue? Is that why Nokia went with USB 2.x on the N1? But that doesn’t make any sense if LeTV can put it in a phone. What will USB-C mean for peripherals? Is Host Mode automatically a part of the spec? Will hard drives “just work”?

A lot of things will be redesigned this year for the USB-C connector. It will be a pleasure to have one connector on all devices instead of the current mess.

I now cringe at the thought that I’ll have to buy something this year that won’t include a USB-C port.

HTC One E9 Now Certified by TENAA; A 5.5 inch Phablet that Measures Only 7.5 mm in Thickness

A few days ago, more precisely on Saturday, our sister site Mobilissimo.ro unveiled in premiere a couple of live pictures with the HTC One E9, phablet that is getting ready for for a local launch. Today, we get to know that the device in case received just certification from the Chinese agencyTENAA that reveals some new pictures and also other details about its specs.

As rumored, we’re dealing with a 5.5 inch phablet that arrives in a polycarbonate case. The phone measures 156.5 mm in length, 76.6 mm in width and just 7.54 mm in thickness. We also get to know that the battery included in the package is a 2.800 mAh unit.

• 4GB microsd for a factory firmware backup, if you installed apps, consider using a microsd card between 8 and 32 gb. And if possible a class 10 card, but just for not making you wait so much when backing up. Read the extra notes at the end of this guide for a estimation.

Steps

1. Download this ISO 
2. Download RUFUS on your computer and install it

3. From Rufus itself select the downloaded ISO from first step, choose GPT mode 
4. Make USB disk (my Rufus is in spanish, i don't know which name is in English)

5. Insert the USB pendrive and the microsd in your Z64
6. Boot and press the ESC key on your keyboard repeteadly until you enter the BIOS


7. Go to SAVE & EXIT > Boot Override > General UDisk 5.00 > press ENTER > answer YES (Note "General UDisk 5.0" may show up with a different name on yours

8. You will see the following screen, just press ENTER

9. On this menu , write 1 then press enter. If you choose "2" you will boot to graphical environment for advanced and MANUAL tweaking, you are on your own.

10. On this menu you can choose between BACKUP and RESTORE.

11. If you choose BACKUP, you must confirm by pressing the key “G” , that will ERASE completely the first partition on your microSD card and start the process. (as this step will make you wait some time it will be a good idea to sit down and watch some tv, or play with your kids, or give some love to your wife, hey, just giving some ideas LOL )

12. At the end you will have two files on your microsd card, fullbackup.gz and fullbackup.md5 , don't delete or edit it or it will not work for restore later.

EXTRA NOTES:

- If you do a factory reset on Z64A and then you back it up, the process will take about 20min in a class 10 microsd plus 2-3 minutes more for the checksum generation. The backup size will be around 2GB.

- On my own z64A with some apps installed, kodi, addons, etc, the backup is 3.9Gb, so i need a 8gb microsdcard (4gb microsdcard is never 4gb for real, it's allways about 3.7gb)
- Restoring a backup may take aprox about 1h

- We didn't try to restore a Z64W backup to Z64A tvbox, it may work or it may not but since you have a z64A backup you are safe to try it, if it doesn't work just restore your z64A backup.

- We are working hard on a v2 with a nicer and graphical interface with more interesting options, i.e. adding root.
